  2. 5 slow standard pushups. HOW TO DO IT: Keep your back flat, abs tight, butt down and shoulders rotated so that the crooks of the elbows face slightly forward. This position ensures that your core is engaged and that your shoulders are in the position that’s the least likely to cause pain. If your wrists bother you, perform the push-up on your knuckles, which keeps the wrists in a more neutral position. From the plank, bend your elbows in toward your body and lower your chest to the floor. Push the floor away from you to come back up.

  2. 5 Warrior Push-Ups. HOW TO DO IT: Begin at the bottom of the push-up with your elbows bent and torso straight. Extend at the elbows to reach the high push-up position. At the top of the movement, turn at the shoulders and reach one hand as high as possible toward the ceiling. Then reverse the motion and return under control back to the starting position. Switch between lifting your left and right arm on each rep.

  2. 5 Knee-to-Elbow (Spiderman) Push-Ups. HOW TO DO IT: Begin at the top of the push-up position. Keep your back straight and lower the torso under control. At the bottom of the push-up, bring your knee to the outside of your elbow. Then return your leg to the starting position and extend through your elbows until you reach the top of the push-up. Alternate sides on each rep.

  4. Tai-no Ichi-Nuki - left is arm held tightly to side of body to prevent movement of Saya.

  5. Tai-no Ni-Nuki - left hand to Saya pulling as the right hand at Tsuka pulls forward.

  6. Kage no Ittō – shadow single cut.

  7. Itto Nage – (blade throw) – sword throwing. This should be explained. 

 

八方秘剣 Happo Biken – eight direction secret sword

  2. 5 Knee-to-Chest (Mountain Climber) Push-Ups. HOW TO DO IT: Begin at the top of the push-up position. Keep your back straight and lower the torso under control. Press back up with your arms, and at the top of the push-up, bring one knee up under the chest. Make sure your foot doesn’t touch the ground. Return your leg to its original position, then lower yourself back down and repeat, lifting the opposite leg. Continue alternating throughout the set. 

 

Taihen-Jutsu – Body technique   

30 seconds to defend and escape against 2 opponents without weapons (student can fight back in defense)

  2. 5 Outside Leg Kick Push-Ups. HOW TO DO IT: Begin at the top of a typical push-up position. Keep your back straight as you lower the torso under control. At the bottom of the push-up, kick your foot out to the side, keeping your knee straight. Then return your leg to its original position and extend at your elbows until you return to the top of the push-up. Then lower yourself again and repeat the movement on your other side, lifting the opposite leg.   

 

Shinken Gata 

30 seconds to defend against 2 opponents using a Bo; both opponents will have swords. 2 chances (student can fight back in defense).

 

Shodan – First Degree black belt

  2. The Shodan exam will be given in my presence or another Shidoshi; if not possible then the presence of at least one other Black Belt from my linage; to pass exam both Black belts will need to agree on that decision. 

  3. All students under the age of 18 testing for Shodan are only allowed to test against training partners above the age of 18 and should have rank equal to or above testing student.

Migi Hidari Tsuki

Start in Seigan no Kamae, with the left leg forwards. Shuffle step forwards with the left leg, and rotate the left hand turning the Yari over. The left knee is bent almost to 90°. The Yari is raised so that it is level with the right hand almost up to the breast.

  2. 5 Diamond Push-Up. HOW TO DO IT: Assume a standard push-up position, but bring your hands close together under your chest so that the fingers form a diamond shape. As you lower down, allow the elbows to brush your ribs. 

 

Shinken Gata Tanto-Jutsu– knife combat training

Student will defend against 2 opponents with wooden training knives (each Uke will have 1 knife); Student will be armed with a training Hanbo (a Foam padded or Bamboo Fukuro-Shinai) and will be allowed to do anything necessary to protect himself for 30 seconds. Main object is to protect vital areas from stabs and slashes. Student should remember I will be grading this performance on his use of strategy. (Test will be performed using wooden training knives)
